Fantastic Vacations In Exeter, England

Posted on timeAugust 19th, 2009 by userMonica

When most people think about taking a vacation in Great Britain they frequently only mention resorts near to the sea such as Whitby, Bognor Regis, Torquay and Weston-super-Mare. Infrequently people may discuss having a short break in a specific county in England for example Devon in the south of England but rarely do they discuss having a short break in the city of Exeter. This article introduces various reasons why a vacation in Exeter is a clever idea.

The very first reasons for having a holiday in Exeter is that the accommodation is extremely reasonable with bed and breakfast accommodation in Exeter available at about twenty five pounds per night and lots of places around the ?40-50 ballpark.

Of course you will need more than a minimal price to entice you to stay in a city and Exeter definitely has plenty to offer the potential tourist. You will find that there are numerous top class tourist attractions in the city centre and even more near by and if that isn’t sufficient then Plymouth is not too far away and you will find that there is also cheap accommodation in Plymouth and even more brilliant tourist attractions. Plus you will discover plenty of breathtaking places to see along the nearby coast.

Where To Stay In Exeter

The Drewe Arms
This accommodation is excellent, the rooms are budget but the actual building is a picturesque seventeenth century thatched inn situated on the famous Two Moors Way (a walkers route). Unfortunately it is about 15m from Exeter’s city center. If you want more luxury the inn also offers four-poster rooms.

The Crawford Hotel
This accommodation is far closer to Exeter’s city center, roughly 1.6 km. It is a two star establishment with good en suite rooms and, crucially, twenty four hour access to rooms, which is excellent if you are going to be getting back very late or if you will be needing to access the room during the day. If required there is Free wireless internet access in public areas of the hotel.

Visitor Attractions

In the city there are just a few of tourist attractions worth visiting including; Rougemont Castle, St Peter’s Cathedral and the Royal Albert Museum. As I said earlier there is a small selection of nearby seaside resorts to see the most beautiful being the old-fashioned villages of Beer, Sidmouth and Seaton.

Further away, in between Plymouth and Exeter is the virtually unpopulated moorland of the Dartmoor National Park with the general area having a fair few tourist attractions to visit including Buckland Abbey, A La Ronde and Buckfast Abbey along the main road, to Plymouth. Along the way you will pass by the Torbay area, which includes Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and is often referred to as the English Riviera.

Exeter really is a excellent city in which to take a vacation but why not discuss having a two destination vacation and spend a couple of nights in a nice hotel in Plymouth and travel around the beautiful countryside in between these 2 superb cities?
